The History of Asian Decor

Zen Rock Garden

Feng Shui: "Feng" meaning "wind" and "Shui" meaning "water" (pronounced fung-shway): A Chinese art form that has its earliest beginnings three thousand years ago in China. This school of thought was started by the master Yang Yun Sang who left us a legacy of classical Feng Shui text. He is considered the founder of the landscape school of Feng Shui and based much of his writings on vital energy as well as on something he called, dragon's energy or dragon breath. "It is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for the people inhabiting it. Hence the term, Asian Decor as used in this current document"

Asian influence on the American psyche has been around for a long time; but none is so influencial as Feng Shui. Basically, Feng Shui is the art of maintaining balance in nature and in our lifestyle by surrounding ourselves with well meaning elements that sustain our way of life. In other words, the idea behind Feng Shui is to create good energy instead of bad. We may view it simply as Asian Decor or as a way to decorate our rooms, but to those seriously involved in Feng Shui it is a way to view life through "Chi" energy, also called, life force or vital energy.

The best way to view this is in this manner: As we meditate to help develop our spiritual path or to increase the luster of our auric field, Feng Shui is but one way to also enrich our lives by getting us use to the idea of living it on a daily basis. We heal the inner person as well as the outer. But Feng Shui takes this a step further because through it, we learn that we are also masters of our own surroundings, and that through those surroudings we are in turn influenced. The two work hand in hand in Feng Shui and are not separate.
